How To’s and FAQs

About Me:
I started working on my own genealogy around 2009. My sister and I decided to join the Daughters of the American Revolution, because we knew our paternal Great-Grandmother had been a member. But we wanted our mother to be able to join, too. I was able to find two of her ancestors that qualified. I have also discovered that we have a link to the Mayflower, through George Soule. My maternal Grandmother’s lineage was a mystery to us, even though we knew her. Through DNA, I was eventually able to find out who her family was, and even met some new cousins. I have learned so much about my ancestors, and feel a stronger connection with my roots, and I want to help others feel that connection as well. I know not everyone has the time or inclination to do the research themselves, so I am hoping you will let me use my knowledge and experience to provide that information to you.

Why “Walnut Hill Genealogy”?
The photo on the Home page is the front yard of the house where I grew up, which is full of Black walnut trees. And, it is on top of a small hill.

I want to read one of the books you have listed, but it is not at my local library. How do I request an interlibrary loan?
This will undoubtedly vary from library to library, but this is the process in my library system. Under their Using the Library tab, I select Interlibrary loans. I have to have a login to the library’s webpage to use this service. They direct me to WorldCat First Search, and I use either their basic or advanced search tab. Once I find the book I want, I select it, and then click the Borrow this Item link, which takes me to a Loan Request page. I have to specify which branch I want the material sent to, if I will accept other formats, and if I will accept an item in a language other than English. It also asks the maximum fee I am willing to pay. Most requests do not incur a fee; it is only if an item is very hard to find. I can also track the status of any requests on this site. Please contact your local library for assistance with their specific process.
