Fifth Blogversary

Fifth Blogversary

This is the fifth anniversary of when I started this blog. When I started, I don’t think I had thought about how long I would be doing this. It doesn’t seem possible that five years have gone by already! Why am I doing this? Since we are trying to learn what we can about our ancestors, we also need to learn about the world they lived in. One of the best ways, in my opinion, is to read books that describe what life was like for others, in that same time period.

When I started, my goal was to post every two weeks, about a book that had something to do with American history. I have only missed posting a couple of times, so I think I am doing a pretty good job. I restricted myself to books about American history, including non-fiction, historical fiction, biography or autobiography, or period fiction. Most of the books to date have been non-fiction. I have not had very many in the period fiction category. I will try to find more of those. Most of these books have come from the library, so they should be accessible to anyone else with a library card. Even if you have to do an inter-library loan!

I had limited myself to American history before WWII. One reason is that there is so much written about this era, that it could get overwhelming. I may add a few books from this era, in the next few years, but I don’t want to focus on it. For this year, since it is the 250th anniversary of our founding, I will be focusing on books from the era of the Revolution. I didn’t start the year that way, and I may decide to vary things a little by the end of the year, but I don’t think I will run out of books on the topic!

We’ll see how long I keep this up. People keep writing books, and somebody needs to read them!
